Sex Therapy

An active sex life is an enjoyable and important element of a healthy relationship.  However, most people encounter sexual problems at some point in their lives.

There are a lot of physical and emotional reasons why this can happen.  For example stress, tiredness, illness or a new baby.

A lot of people find these sexual problems don’t last long.  Where a problem does last, Relate can help.

When can Relate help?

Relate sex therapists see lots of people with sexual difficulties like:

  • Loss of desire
  • Loss of erection
  • Premature ejaculation
  • Pain on intercourse

What happens during sex therapy?

Firstly you will meet with a sex therapist.  The therapist will take time to explore with you what you want to achieve or change in your sexual relationship and what the reasons behind this might be.

Where Relate can help, you will have regular sessions with your sex therapist during which you’ll be given a programme of exercises to do at home and discuss your progress (you will never be asked to undertake any sexual tasks during a session).

Who comes to Relate?

Relate sees people individually as well as in couples.  People who come for sex therapy can be part of a couple, single, in a same-sex relationship, young or old.  A lot of people are referred to Relate by their GP, but anyone can choose to contact us direct.  When you contact us please make it clear that you would like to see a sex therapist.

Is there a charge?

In most cases Relate makes a charge for its services to clients but does not aim to make a profit.  Ask about charges when you contact the Centre.
