Personal relationships bring up all sorts of challenges. Sometimes these challenges can become problems. Things like work worries and family pressures don’t help. It can become hard to focus on the good bits in your relationship, but Relate can help.
When would you come to Relate?
We help people who have come across issues in their personal relationships and want help to sort things out. These are some of the reasons why people come to Relate:
Whether you are single, a couple, or have a partner who doesn’t want to come or you simply want to discuss things alone, you are welcome to bring any aspects of past, current or future relationships to counselling.
Working with a counsellor gives you, or you and your partner, a chance to think about what you can do to change your situation for the better. It can also give you a chance to explore complex or difficult issues in a safe and confidential environment.
What happens during counselling?
Firstly you will meet with a counsellor for a consultation. During this session the counsellor will explore with you what you want to achieve or change in your relationship. Where Relate can help, you will be offered regular counselling sessions with a counsellor.
How many sessions will it take?
Relate deals with every client’s situation individually and the length of time counselling takes is tailored to you. Sessions are usually weekly and counsellors always work at your pace, not to a timetable, so you will never feel rushed or obliged to come back unnecessarily.
Is there a charge?
In most cases Relate makes a charge for its services to clients but does not aim to make a profit. Ask about charges when you contact the Centre.
